A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Gomphrena haageana
Strawberry Fields' produces vibrant red bract covered tips from which delicate little yellow blooms grow. These bracts are actually part of an extension of the plant's leaves, though they look very similar to small red Alpine Strawberries. These papery-thin bracts need little water and dry easily, which allows the plant to retain its brilliant red "bloom". Seeds form along the stem as the tip continues to bloom.
