Hawk Moth

Hyles lineata

Description:

The fore wing is dark brown with a tan stripe which extends from the base to the apex. There are also white lines that cover the veins. The black hind wing has a broad pink median band. It has a wingspan of 2 to 3 inches.

Habitat:

This photograph was captured here in the High Desert of Oregon on the Zinnia Flowers.

Notes:

The Rufous Hummingbird has established themselves here on our property and this moth is as big as that species of hummingbird. One of the hummingbird has been seen chasing off this moth. At the time of this series of shots (there is more just 3 uploaded here), this photographer could not determinate if this moth was getting a drink from the zinnia flowers, or actually getting nectar. *As well as a Hawk Moth, this is also called a Hummingbird Moth. *This moth will also enter Jefferson County Oregon Homes. *I personally do not like touching such wildlife unless I have too. Harming wildlife is not my intention.
