St. Andrews Cross Spider

Argiope keyserlingi

Description:

Large spider approx. 6cm across, looks like this female may have a stick insect in the web? Females (upto 10cm) are larger than males (upto 4cm). The zig zagged web sections are called stabilimentum, there purpose is not clear but may act to deter predators or attract prey, apparently these parts of the web reflect high amounts of UV.
