Description:

A large caterpillar was already infested with parasitoid eggs before it spun this hard woody cocoon. The insect has made its exit hole and has long departed.

There have been a few cocoons and caterpillars to be found the last couple of years. This should be a good year too. I have about six cocoons waiting for 'hatching' but after a few years of good rain, I think we get a high parasite load.
