Pseudokermes cf. nitens
An expert, Ana Peronti, ID'd this exquisitely shaped scale insect as Pseudokermes nitens (Hemiptera: Coccidae) although. according to her, it would be necessary a microscopical study. P. nitens was described in late XIX century but is still poorly known, due to its relative rarity. It is endemic to southern Brazil, and is not an agricultural threat, so it is not much studied.
A small park in a major southern brazilian city.

You're right, Sukanya, I'll do it.
Hi Sergio, since you know it is a scale insect and are certain absolutely till genus at least (without microscopy that is), would you consider filling in the fields ...that way the spotting will not be Unknown or Anonymous. Thanks.
How very cool!
