Bengal Monitor

Varanus bengalensis

Description:

This is a Bengal Monitor that i found in my backyard. This monitor is grey-black in color, and has dark spots that give it a speckled appearance. Bengal monitors has external nostril openings (nares) that is slit-like and oriented near horizontal, and positions between the eye and the tip of the snout. It also have a forked tongue that is protruded in the manner of snakes. Its length from head to tail is about 95 cm. The adult usually can be found moving slowly (possibly hunt) on the ground.

Habitat:

- Spotted in my backyard. Usually, it can be found moving slowly around the field, small forest, river, etc.

Notes:

- This monitor lizard is from the Varanidae family. This monitor lizard found widely distributed over South Asia.
