Erinaceus europaeus
Fairly large hedgehog, in healthy condition. Not worried at all by my presence and quite happy to continue hunting for food.
On the edge of tall grass behind a stock wire fencing next to a mown, grass footpath. Plenty of dry, leaf litter near to the fence through which the hedgehog was rooting around for insects.
Spotted at Glamis Castle, Scotland, while on my honeymoon! Given that they are largely nocturnal, it was a pleasant surprise to see one mid-afternoon. It wasn't particularly phased by our presence and I managed to get some great photos and video.
