Common Snapping turtle

Was this turtle digging a nest? It sure has that look about it. If so, that's a terrible location! :-(

This is a common snapper I am sure of it ally snappers rarely ever leave water except to lay eggs and an alligator snapping turtle this size shell would be much more spikey
