Turdus migratorius
A robin with leucism: white and black wing and patches of rust on a white breast and a black head.
A Chicago backyard.
Identified by the crowd. I love Project Noah!
Here is the link to that mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/7970...
If PN is working for you today, you simply join the mission and then edit this spotting and add it to the mission.
h'mmm, the site is having a "problem saving," so I can't put in the corrections. also, I'd be happy to add to rare color morphs mission, but I'm not sure how to do that. If you can advise... thanks.
I LOVE Project Noah! Thank you so much for the info. We have a lot of robins where I am and I've noticed an increasing number with a notable patch of white in their wing feathers—though otherwise looking normal. So clearly leucism has been flirting with the local gene pool. fyi - a nest from the spring: http://newsfromthe.tumblr.com/post/26157...
Wow, I knew this was an American Robin, but the white patches were throwing me off. I didn't know there was something called leucism in animals, although I've known of leukoderma in humans.
