Southern Black Racer

Coluber constrictor priapus

This snake hangs around my yard a lot, especially when it is need of a mow. When the weeds get high, it hides in them. It sticks its head out, motionless until it sees a lizard, then strikes. The weeds would rustle like crazy, and then it would stick its head back up again in search for another. You can see in the last photo it was trying to chase after a lizard up a post.
