Short-palped Crane Fly

Description:

Many of these crane flies were in the grasses at the back of our property yesterday. They were about 30mm long incl. wings but the legs brought their overall dimensions to about 60mm. White halteres clearly visible. Gold translucence to the legs. Intricate patterns of white and tan on wings.

Habitat:

Suburban back yard.
