Common remora

Remora remora

Description:

The common remora is a pelagic marine fish belonging to family Echeneidae. Remora remora is different from other remoras in the family Echeneidae by the modification of its dorsal fin. The dorsal fin, which has 22 to 26 soft rays, acts like a suction cup, creating a vacuum that allows it to attach to larger marine animals such as whales, dolphins, sharks and sea turtles. (information from Wikipedia)

Notes:

This spotting took place at Children's Aquarium at Fair Park in Dallas. To read more about the sea turtle and its injuries, see this spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/140...

I thought they only went on whales and sharks and stuff! I didn't know they went on turtles too! Cool.

I have never seen one on a turtle before. Fascinating!
