Ebony Jewelwing damselflies (mating pair)

Calopteryx maculata

Description:

There was no courtship for this pair, the female was sitting on the branch and the male came flying down the creek. They clashed momentarily, I thought it was territorial dispute, next thing I know they are mating. Also spotted few others today along the creek, they have a most peculiar flight. The first one I saw thought was a butterfly until it got closer. They move their wings much more slowly than I have ever noticed with another damselfly.

Habitat:

Urban
