Melanerpes erythrocephalus
These omnivorous birds eat insects, seeds, berries, nuts, fruit and even other birds' eggs on occasion; about two-thirds of their diet is plant materials and they store nuts for later consumption. This bird is perched on its usual stash tree in the reserve where it keeps food.
