I agree that this looks like a Knobbed Whelk. These are sometimes called Eastern Conch. It's a really big one for sure!

This is a very interesting photo! Do you have any other pictures of this organism? It would be great to be able to see what the shell looks like. It looks like a species of Whelk, but without seeing the shell as well I think it will be hard to get a specific ID.
