Family Asididae G. sp.
This friendly little fly came and joined us for Labour Day breakfast. About 3/4" in length, he's one of the bigger varieties I've seen in Ontario. Very calm -- took flight a few times, but came back to the table each time, and let me photograph some more.
Diverse woods near a small lake.
The bokeh in the first shot is from moisture on my lens. I ran into the cool cabin to grab my camera, and proceeded to photograph this fly in the rather hot direct sunlight. Every picture I took after this one is ruined from the cast :( I cannot recall what it's on in the second shot. I thought at first that it was the end grain of the picnic table, but it looks like knit material to me.

This guy's is right in the middle of a 150 acre property... and there are only two structures on the entire property -- very wild. It's cut in half by a lake and on East side of the lake is Coniferous woods, and on the West side is all deciduous woods (mostly maple). Heaven!
I love the little woods of Canada! My sister has a Maple wood right behind her home.
