A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Marmota flaviventris
A yellow-brown marmot, with grey head. The face is white with an horizontal black stripe on top of the nose.
Rocky mountain, valley bottoms and tundra.
This particular guy was not shy at all and stayed several minutes in front of us, showing every possible angle of its head.

I totally agreewith you Gordon: Yellowstone is awesome for wildlife! As many other National Parks.
I think marmots habituate to people fairly quickly, especially in National Parks where they aren't hunted by people. I've photographed marmots further north in Yellowstone up near Sheepeater Cliffs and have them stroll past me just a few feet away while I was photographing them from a convenient perch. Yellowstone is a great place for wildlife photography, isn't it?
Perhaps. But it never alarmed the other marmots of the area.
Either it was confident we will not harm it, or it get used to people passing by. Even my 2 years old daughter did not raise any alarm.
Likely he is on Sentenial duty.
Thank you.
What lovely portraits.
