Short-winged Meadow Katydid

Conocephalus brevipennis

Description:

Bright green color with pink eyes and pink long "sword" as a tail. Only 1 inch long (26 mm) Female. Most likely full-grown despite the size.

Habitat:

Near meadows, on the house.

Notes:

Night photography/flash in a dark area.

The "sword" is the female's ovipositor. She will use that to lay her eggs in the ground. I found these guys when I was in upstate NY. This one might actually be full grown, or very nearly so.
