Red-Shouldered Hawk

Buteo lineatus

Description:

* Updated!!! Brown and tawny with darker wings, white flecks across wings. Got more shots now! Very similar to Merlin Falcon

Habitat:

Forest trees

Notes:

I was walking in the yard with my friend and he pointed out the elusive falcon I had been trying to spot for a week. He perched in a dogwood and tried to remove the spanish moss that had caught in his talons, as I got close enough for a good shot. It's an incredible bird.

Also, you can see the 'red' shoulder in the first pic.

This is a great shot of a Red-shouldered Hawk. Note that the wings are spotted and the breast is orange colored with the darker, more solid color at the top of the breast.
