Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly

Papilio glaucus

Description:

Family: Palionidae, Genus: Papilio. Wingspan: 3-5.5 inches (7.9 - 14 cm). Female. Size of females is larger than male. Females may be either yellow or black making them dimorphic. This female is deep yellow with 4 black tiger stripes on each forewing and band of bright blue spots along hindwing. Feeding on milkweed.

Habitat:

Meadow, fields, roadsides, wherever there is milkweed. Range: Midwest to Eastern USA.
