Liasis mackloti
This large python (up to 2.5m) was spotted in a previously burned area basking in the sunlight. This water python was actual very calm and didnt seem to care about us. Sadly I only had my camera phone on me since I was mountain biking.

Yea Im not sure why Wikipedia says this. In my ID book a reputable reptile sight it is L. mackloti for the Australian water python (possibly changed from fuscus a bit ago who knows). Will keep looking for info on that and will add a link.
Scott,
I am a little confused on the species. It was my understanding that Liasis fuscus was the water python and does occur in Australia. Liasis mackloti is considered an Indonesian python and this one does not really look anything like the Liasis mackloti that I owned a few years back although they can be somewhat variable in their base color. No matter what kind it is, it is a beautiful spotting of a beautiful animal.

They are such beautiful snakes, with a sheen on their skin. Normally I find them at night but this was loving the sun
Awesome spotting! Thanks for sharing.
Wow. I've never seen one of these.
