Cattail Caterpillar

Simyra insularis

Description:

The Cattail Caterpillar has quite a misleading name, as it is not only seen on Cattails, but also grasses and deciduous trees and shrubs. Characterized by orange rings of setal warts (this one has twelve) broken up by a black line along its back. It is quite rare, despite its versatility as an eater.

Habitat:

Found near marshes, deciduous trees, shrubs and grasses.
