Description:

Medium sized wasp. Black with yellow markings, large head. Adults feed on nectar. Larvae feed on bees provided by the mother at time of egg-laying (bugguide.net). Mostly feeds on bees from family Halictidae.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard garden, feeding on flowers of Garlic Chives.

Notes:

This wasp was fast-moving so it was difficult to get a really good photo.
