Blue-winged Wasp

Scolia dubia dubia

Description:

Larger wasp with shiny blue-black wings. Black thorax. Elongated abdomen with two large yellow spots and reddish orange coloration. When landed on the flowers they would either hold their wings together or open them up, perhaps in defense or communication with other wasps.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard garden. Feeding on flowers of Garlic Chives.

Notes:

These wasps are very plentiful right now.
