Brighamia insignis

Description:

Yellow tubular flowers, very fragrant. Succulent leaves and woody stalk.

Habitat:

Allerton Garden NTGB Kauai

Notes:

This plant usually grows in the most precarious of places, the Molokai sea cliffs, so it was a real treat to see it up close and get to smell the flowers.

The flowers do look similar aside from the color. I dont think they are related though, Brighamia insignis has a small woody trunk and Quisqualis indica is vine. They are also in different classes and orders. I would like to dissect the flowers of each and see a comparison, that would be interesting. I wonder how much of their DNA is shared.
