Scleroderma.
They look like some kind of puffball; but these are solid, and crack open as they age (as seen in the second image). There where some actual puff-balls not far.

Thanks LightWorker! certainly Scleroderma, but would have needed to cut it open to find more details.

Maybe a Scleroderma species. I'd compare here:
