Chenonetta jubata
The Australian Wood Duck is a medium-sized 'goose-like' duck with a dark brown head and a pale grey body with two black stripes along the back. The females have a paler head with two white stripes, above and below the eye, a speckled breast and flanks, with a white lower belly and undertail.
The Australian Wood Duck is found in grasslands, open woodlands, wetlands, flooded pastures and along the coast in inlets and bays.
When you say Mum, it makes me think of my Brother-in-law who is from New Zealand.
You are rockin' with that camera Sean. Cant wait to see what you can do. Congrats :")
Hi Sean, I'm fairly certain you have a wood duck, not a black duck. The female wood duck has a similar facial stripe to the black duck, but a smaller bill and the speckled breast you see in your spotting.
Thanks Leanne, Testing the new camera today and it seems to be doing the job! Not bad for a first attempt at shooting a bird in flight.
