Black-crowned night-heron

Nycticorax nycticorax

Description:

Large wing span. Skinny, long neck (nestled close to body in these pics). Large body. Notice white, grey feathers & patch of darker feathers on head.

Habitat:

Flew in and landed on a branch above a wide creek in Cherokee Park. Water bird.

Notes:

Truly truly awful quality. Too much brush to get up close. Long neck when extended; in these pics head is nestled close to body.

@gellis, the bird was pretty big and had a long neck when it flew. I don't know that it is a black-crowned night heron. I believe it could be a great blue heron due to it's size and wingspan. Although, I'm not 100% sure, so I'm still open to suggestions
