Luna moth

Actias luna

Description:

Bright white body and red legs. Hindwings have long curving tails. Wings are pale green, each with a transparent eyespot. Outer margins are pink in the southern spring brood, yellow in the southern summer brood and in northern populations.

Habitat:

Deciduous hardwood forests.

Notes:

I observed this species of moths around 10 PM. It was really active late into the night and rested on a flower planter hook until late afternoon the next day. Best moth spotting this year at this location!
