Description:

The male has strong black and white markings. The females are brown with a dark back and medium-brown body, and buffy eye rings. Both sexes have a white ring and a black tip on their bills.

Habitat:

East Texas Piney Woods

Notes:

A few of these birds usually visit our pond for a day or two during the winter.
