Hamadryas laodamia
This spectacular colorful Starry Night Cracker (Hamadryas laodamia female) was photographed in Chapada National Park, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Crackers in fact have a fascinating and very diagnostic behavior: resting face-down on vertical trunks, wings open (as illustrated here) and regularly make rapid flights while making loud cracking noises (with their wings) before returning to the same spot on the trunk!
