Equus asinus asinus
Burros were used in early day mining in southern Nevada, including 19th century gold rush and silver mining. Per the attached article, they were introduced through Mexico, in 1598. As time passed, they were turned loose, and can be found in many BLM managed areas in southern Nevada. I had a problem determining the scientific name, as burros are smaller donkeys...so I applied the donkey name. I am open to suggestions.
These were spotted in Red Rock Canyon, Mojave Desert, west of Las Vegas.
The BLM will fine you $500 if you are caught feeding them.

Machi...I was unsure of the classification, and appreciate your efforts. I agree, and have made the change. The population in Carson seems to be related to those in Red Rock Canyon, where I spotted these.
I did a search and most seem to ay Equus asinus or Equus asinus asinus http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/carson_ci...
