Spider plus Web

Description:

This photograph needed flash. Large spider, which looked like a blob of darkness was revealed as a rather attractive specimen in the photo Seems to have maroon coloured marks on the legs.

Habitat:

My rooftop terrace before dawn broke.

Notes:

By morning all was gone even the web. Did it eat its web?

Thanks, Mark. This is the third time I have seen a beautiful web disappear. The spider spins it as dusk falls and I think, OK I'll photograph it in the morning and it disappears. Thank you for clearing up the recycling part...I was guessing as no other explanation seemed likely. I will keep your ID suggestion in mind. Thanks again.

It looks like some Eriophora sp. (Araneidae) Some of ours have similar white fur and the maroon colouring is the underlying skin colour. The same species may have little or nor white fur here. They recycle the main web each morning and hide in nearby bushes.
