Common Whitetail Dragonfly (male)

Description:

Males have a chunky short body and wings have a brownish black band. Mature males have a short, stout abdomen that is completely chalky blue-white covering. This was one of many males at the pond.

Habitat:

This is a city maintained retention pond.

Notes:

Returned to this pond to evaluate the impact of a two consecutive days of aerial spraying for West Nile. Water level in the retention pond is down several inches.
