Description:

The upper-side is checkered with orange and black. The underside is molted with browns, orange and grays. There is no silvering (on the underside), which differentiates it from the Great Spangled Fritillary. The wingspan measures 1.75–2.25 inches (44–57 mm).

Habitat:

Spotted feeding on wildflowers in a meadow next to a road at the Stuttgart Municipal Airport.

Found across much of North America.
