African Elephant

Loxodonta africana

Description:

The series shows a mock charge. We were on our way to meet the vehicles that would take us to Kruger. This young female(who apparently is the leader of her small group) stepped in front of the lead as they rounded a sharp turn in the road, with a "you shall not pass look." That vehicle waved us around(apparently our driver is both an elephant whisperer and rhino whisperer - later spotting) She then proceeded to make several mock charges before she and our driver had a stand off (note #3 where her pal appears to be laughing his butt off- we were sure he was saying, it never works) that consisted of a lot of "nos" and "shoo-ahs" on the part of our driver/guide. The buddy then breaks away and runs into the bush still shaking its head up and down in ele laughter. Finally our antagonist slunk into the bushes. When asked, our guide explained that as she is maturing and in line to lead a herd, he cannot let her EVER get the better of the vehicles, because to an elephant the vehicles are lie some large animal with whom they share the land

Habitat:

Mthethomusha reserve

Notes:

This was right before we left for Kruger
