Acraea acara acara
In the Mulanje mountains I found this beauty. Wingspan a bit over 5 cm. Probably in the Acrea family.
Mountain area, djungle habitat with shrubs, bushes and gigantic trees. Rainy season and the nature is sprouting.
Hej Bay. Sorry for putting you into so much trouble for this one :)
But today is a big day, this gem is getting a name thanks to you and Dominique!
I am happy that you love this so much! Thank you so much!
Happy end!! Acraea acara acara was confirmed by Dominique Bernard! Merci beaucoup pour ton assistance, Dominique!!
OK, I checked about 5000 Acraea species and the "only" possible candidate is Acraea acara acara, most probably the male! This one is quite variable and some of the markings in yours are a little bit confusing first. However, the general phenotype is quite consistent with Acraea acara acara. But I must admit this was a real challenge (as it is usually in African Acraea, though). Please, check my links and verify yourself if I am on the right track! ;-)
The link in the suggestion is for me the best match!

May need help. It is either a Blood-red Acraea (Acraea petraea) or closely related.
