Common Buckeye butterfly

Description:

This is a brown butterfly with bright orange bars on the primary wings. It has 8 eyespots in all. When wings are closed undersides appear tan in color. Wingspan is approximately 1.5-2.5 inches wide.

Habitat:

I found this butterfly in my front yard resting in the mulch. General habitat: open fields, meadows, sunny areas, low vegetation areas with some clearing.

Notes:

I often see these butterflies in the summer. I think its' coloration and eyespots are beautiful. FUN FACTS: 1. Colors that are visible to this butterfly are yellow, green, and red. 2.
