Pimple Psyllid Gall

Trioza eugeniae

Description:

Small cup shaped bulges on the leaves of the Lilly Pilly tree. The ones on the older leaves were numerous and were unsightly.

Habitat:

Lilly Pilly tree (Syzygium smithii) - (australian native apple)

Notes:

These little leaf galls are made by Pysllids, a small cicada-like hemipteran,Trioza eugeniae . It is stated that the Syzygium genus is more prone to infestation than the Acmena genus. The nymphs of the Psyllids feed on the leaves and the leaves react forming these little cup-shaped galls.
