Spotted Bollworm Moth

Earias vittella

Description:

Earias vittella C. Felder, 1861 (Spotted Bollworm). Nolidae, Chloephorinae. (Thanks to Nuwan Chathuranga for the ID) The caterpillars of this species are a pest on Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), and Cotton (Gossypium species). The adult moths are off-white with a green stripe along the middle of each forewing, and a green thorax. The green color is inclined to fade to brown in older specimens. The wingspan is about 1.5 cms. This species is found across Southeast Asia, Brunei, India, and on imported Okra in U.K., and is endemic in Australia in Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, and New South Wales.
