Perithemis tenera
A very small, stocky, dragonfly. One of the smallest dragonflies in North America. Thorax brown, with thin short dorsal stripes and yellowish side spots. Abdomen stout and brown, with pale narrow rings. Appendages whitish. Wings entirely amber, with reddish stigmas; occasionally brown spots near base. Eyes brown.
City maintained retention pond.
This dragonfly was obelisking in late afternoon heat. Dragonflies use this position to reduce the heat gain while perching.
