A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Phyllotopsis nidulans
Just when I think there is no color in winter I spy something beautiful and orange: the Orange Mock Oyster. Cap orange-yellow, gills orange. A beautiful mushroom that is common with a ride range over much of North America. Season in my book says August to November - I would dicker to say overwinters.
Location on rotting wood, especially deciduous, usually overlapping in clusters.

I know it was quite nice to discover this mushroom and others during the deep winter months. We had one day of winter thaw the day before and all the snow melted, but I suspect mushrooms in the winter are more common than people think. So much is under the snow and others do not go out in the cold weather to look for wildlife. I am always out in the forest and pastures.
Very nice spotting - I wouldn't expect to see so many during a cold winter!
Thank you. I agree. Easy to get hooked on looking at mushrooms they are so beautiful. Doreen
Just beautiful ...
