Red-Tailed Catfish

Phractocephalus hemioliopterus

Description:

A red tailed catfish at the Tulsa Zoo. A common aquarium fish, it is the only extant species of the its genus.

Habitat:

The redtail catfish is native to the Amazon, Orinoco, and Essequibo river basins of South America, in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Ecuador, niger delta fresh water creeks in Nigeria, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.[2] It is found only in fresh water and inhabits larger rivers, streams and lakes.
