Admetovis cf. similaris
This moth mimics the bark surrounding the leaf it was on. It looked like a small piece of bark on a leaf when looking down at it but from the side, you could see there was a moth shape.
It was resting during the day under a Eucalyptus tree in the backyard. There is chaparral and oak woodland surrounding this tree.

Hi bayucca, oh how I've missed your incredible ability to ID! Thank you so much. Your suggested ID looks spot. Thank you!
I think so too, Sergio! :-)
Noctuidae, Noctuinae, Hadenini, Admetovis sp. and most probably Admetovis similaris, but it is a tricky one (for finding the ID and separating from each other), so, I would go with Admetovis cf. similaris, unless we find an expert to safe the ID.
