A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Apis sp.
Garden variety honey bee, about 1 inch long, with standard black and gold striped abdomen.
Pacific Northwest lowland suburban area.
Spotted in a backyard in Southeast Portland. A single bee was working out in a patch of wild rosemary, moving rapidly from blossom to blossom. It was hard to keep sight of it, and impossible to close in on to frame a picture, so I settled for a couple of handheld snaps from 5-6 feet away. It was tough to find the bee in the images, but once I found it and zoomed in, the images were cropped. The quality of the resulting "close up" images (uploaded here) is poor. Still, I thought I'd share.
