Wheel Bugs (mating)

Description:

Family: Reduviidae, Subfamily: Harpactorinae. One of the largest terrestrial true bugs in North America. 1.5 inches (38mm) Female are larger. Structure: Injectors to inject fluid into soft-bodied prey like caterpillars (The wheel bug is considered a beneficial insect) Also cog-like wheel (armor) Color: Light to dark gray. Slow-moving. Does fly. Non-aggressive (usually). DO NOT HANDLE!

Habitat:

Meadow with abundant flowers and weeds to hide among.

Notes:

Night photography/flash. Difficult as the branch was a little high.
