J - from what I read there is a lot of variability in color

Thanks Maria. The moth was in the middle of the path I was hiking on. I thought it was dead, so I picked it up. It slowly opened itself up so I took a few photos and put it on a tree. It made my day

Looks quite similar. Yours looks a little darker, but that could just be variability.

Beautiful! Looks like a buck moth in the genus Hemileuca. I can't find a species match, maybe if you submit it to bugguide.net, they will be able to find species. Could you please add this to my mission?
