Hawksbill Sea Turtle Hatchlings

Eretmochelys imbricata

Description:

The Hawksbill sea turtle is a critically endangered sea turtle belonging to the family Cheloniidae. It is the only extant species in the genus. We were amazingly lucky to have a brood? hatch on the beach of our hotel. Luckily the barman was passionate about them, called the find in and collected as many as he could whilst waiting for the turtle volunteers to arrive, catalogue the nest and check for stragglers before taking them to a dark place to set them free. They had been confused with the lights of the hotel so had set off in the wrong direction.

Habitat:

Beach on south coast of Barbados
