Mosquito Eater (male)

Toxorhynchites speciosus

Description:

Large species of mosquito. This is a male with the bent lower proboscis for feeding and the upper two I would imagine for display purposes. Totally harmless to humans. Both male and female feed on flower nectar. Beneficial as this mosquito's larvae feed on the larvae of the blood sucking mosquito species. They make a sound like normal blood sucking mosquitos but much louder

Habitat:

I was very fortunate after posting a photo of the female of this species yesterday to find a male feeding on a daisy today in my backyard in an outer western suburb of Sydney.
