Northern Short-tailed Shrew

Description:

This is the largest NA Shrew, solid gray to black above and lighter gray or off white below. Length 3.75 - 4", tail 1.75 - 1", weight .5 - 1 oz.

Habitat:

Found in forests and wet areas in this part of the country.

Notes:

These animals are mildly venomous and paralyzes its prey with venom in it's saliva. Bite to humans may be swell and be painful. Like all shrews this one must eat a high volume of food to live, in this case 50% of it's body weight.
